Rye is not only an ancient English market town, old-fashioned & full of character…it’s also very small and easy to get around which makes it perfect for large parties, weddings and special occasions.

The Ship Inn dates back to the 15th century and was originally used as a warehouse to store contraband seized from Smugglers…As such it offers a unique combination of character and scale.  Its large, open plan bar, lounge & eating areas with big windows, original fireplaces and plenty of beams – make it one of Rye’s biggest and most flexible venues.

The Ship has 10 bedrooms, all en-suite, and The Old Borough Arms (which is directly opposite the Ship) also has 10 rooms with en-suite bathrooms so it can work well to book both buildings if you are a large group as that way people don’t have far to stumble at the end of the evening.

The Ship has played host to lots of different types of events, the ones people tend to hire it for regularly are as follows:

If you’re interested in hiring the Ship for your wedding, you can visit the wedding section of the site for further information.

Or for any of the other events listed above, or if you have an idea for something else you’d like to do here, just let us know what you have in mind as the space is very flexible so most things are doable.  Please also see the floor plans section of the site to get a good sense of the building and think through how best you’d like to use it.
