At The Ship, we specialise in doing bespoke wedding receptions for couples who want something a bit more personal than an off-the-shelf wedding breakfast package.
There are certain elements which are consistent – most people tend to like to start with some champagne or Prosecco before they sit down to eat. And there’s usually a desire to have a bit of an opportunity for some dancing after dinner and the speeches. However in terms of the tone/style/manner/order/timing in which these things happen, there are a number of different ways of approaching these depending on your personal preference of what type of occasion you’re looking to create, how much money you want to spend, and so on.
If you’ve got a strong idea of what you want and are just looking for the people to help you execute the vision then that’s obviously fine. If however you’re still pondering on exactly what you think is going to work best then do give us a call to chat it through (ask for Karen), or even pop down and see us (and the venue) if that’s convenient as, having done quite a few weddings here and at other venues in our previous pre-Ship lives, we’ve got a lot of experience of what seems to work the best for people, depending on the level of structure and formality they’re looking for, the numbers they’re thinking of inviting, the atmosphere they’re looking to create, the style of food they’d like, if they want live music, etc.
NOTE: we don’t do the actual ceremony here at The Ship, but the church is less than 5 minutes walk away and the town hall is even closer than that (a town hall ceremony comes complete with the town crier which can work well an opportunity to lead people from the town hall and down to the Ship for champagne…)
